What’s Inside an Electric Scooter’s Battery?
Most electric scooter’s batteries are made either in lead-acid or in Lithium-ion. All NIU scooters are made with Panasonic Lithium-ion battery cells.
Compared with traditional lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries provide five times more energy density and are significantly lighter. An M Serie electric scooter’s battery only weighs 8.3kg!

How to Maintain an Electric Scooter’s Battery?
The lithium-ion battery inside your electric scooter does require special attention, just like you 😉
Be sure not to wait the battery is very low to charge it, neither overcharge it.
What about storage? Store your battery pack in a dry place, not too hot and not too cold, and away from heat sources. If the place is too cold for you, it may also be too cold for your battery.
We recommend to store and charge your battery between 5°C and 35°C. Colder or hotter temperatures could lead to long-term damages 🙁
What About Long-Term Storage?
If you plan not to use your moped for more than 3 months, make sure the electric scooter’s battery level is not at its minimum. Your battery should never be empty. A full charge will protect the battery for 3 to 5 months.
Don’t forget to check the battery level every two months.

You can stock your battery, and also charge it, in a dry place at a good temperature
The good temperature is between 0°C and 40°C but we recommend a more secure range between 5°C and 35°C.
Check first the battery has power. Long-term storage will consume power, so you should maybe charge your battery.
How to take care of my electric scooter battery if I don’t use it?
- Fully charge your battery.
Even if the battery is disconnected from the scooter, its level will reduce days after days. A battery without power can be damaged, and you want to avoid that! That’s why you have to fully charge the battery before to stock it. A full charge should last at least 3 months.
- Store it in a safe place
Put your battery inside a dry, clean room, at a normal temperature between 0°C and 35°C.
- Disconnect the battery
Do not let your battery connected to your scooter for a long-time period. It could lead to severe damages.
- Check the battery level
Make sure the battery is ok, still higher than 40%.
- Charge the battery
If the level of the battery is low after several weeks without using your electric scooter, charge it to avoid possible damages.
