This week on the Friday Five, we’re taking a look at what some of the big players in electric mobility are up to. We’re taking a big-picture snapshot of the industry as it stands, from scooters to hyperloops with some cars in-between. Plus, we’re checking out Edinburgh, where there’s more than just Haggis, I swear!
- Hyperloop Update
You may have heard of hyperloop, a new transportation technology that whisks passengers to their destination using giant, low-pressure tubes. Virgin Hyperloop One, the company behind this technology, has made massive strides towards making this vision a reality. You may soon be zipping across your country at speeds of up to 1,000 km/h.
- New Honda Hybrid
Hybrid cars are nothing new, but Honda has introduced a new hybrid system for its Clarity Hybrid model that’s more complex than ever before. It modulates power between the gas engine and two electric motors depending on the driving conditions and driver inputs with a complicated decision tree. Cool beans, eh?
- Tesla Beware
When you think of Porsches, you think of classic sports cars like the 911. That may change in the future though, as the storied German company is shifting its sights towards the electric market with its Mission E model. Aimed directly at the Tesla Model S, Porsche is heating up competition in the luxury EV market.
- License and Registration, Please
San Francisco is known as a hub for new technology. The latest fad is electric scooters on sharing platforms flooding the city’s hilly streets. The city government has responded by stating that it supports new modes of green transportation, but that simply dumping scooters on the streets without permits will not be tolerated.
- Unlock Your City: Edinburgh
Edinburgh is a vibrant UK city that’s a hotbed of both historical and modern culture. A home to both old and new, it’s home to everything from Medieval castles to prestigious international festivals. Not a city to miss!
