EasyJet is set to become the world’s first major airline to operate net-zero carbon flights across its entire network, after announcing it would offset all jet fuel emissions. The British airline said it would start offsetting all flights from Tuesday 26th November 2019, which it said would cost about £25m in the next financial year through projects to plant trees and avoiding the release of additional carbon dioxide.

Ride-hailing app Uber is a major contributor to air pollution in European cities, and a new coalition of green NGOs says it’s time the company ‘cleaned up its act’ on emissions. The group of green NGOs have launched the #TrueCostOfUber campaign, which aims to put pressure on the US-based firm to go 100% electric in large cities by 2025.

VW Billions

Volkswagen will ramp up spending on electric vehicles, automated driving and other new technology by as the world’s largest automaker challenges rivals to keep pace with an aggressive shift into the post-combustion era. The new five-year budget for investment in hybridization, eMobility and digitalization totals €60 billion, compared with 44 billion euros previously.

Tyred

As one giant goes in, another, Continental, the German auto parts giant, has announced that it will phase out over 5,000 jobs across various production plants in Germany, the U.S. and Italy. It has cited several reasons for this, including the industry’s accelerated transition to electric mobility and the profitability of autonomous and connected driving.
